Google has introduced new AI features in its Photos app that let users transform static images into animated videos and artwork.
“Create” Tab
A new “Create” tab is now available in Google Photos. This section brings together the app’s creative tools in one convenient place.
Users will find both regular features and newer AI options here for faster and easier content creation.
With just a few taps, anyone can produce short videos, digital art, and more.
Photo to Video
The Photo to Video feature lets users turn still images into short video clips. Each clip lasts about six seconds.
To use it, choose a photo and select a prompt. There are two choices: ‘subtle movements’ for a realistic animation, and an ‘I’m feeling lucky’ option for more unexpected results
This feature uses Google’s Veo 2 video model, the same AI engine found in YouTube and Gemini tools.
The Photo to Video tool, now available in the U.S. on both Android and iOS, will help users create lively content without editing skills.

Remix
The Remix feature lets users reimagine photos in various visual styles (anime, comic books, pencil sketches, and 3D effects).
The feature is made possible with Google’s Imagen model. To try it, users are required to open a photo and choose a style.
The transformation happens in seconds, and no filters or design experience are required.
This feature will begin rolling out in the U.S. in the coming weeks. It will be available on both Android and iOS devices.
Watermarks
Google adds digital watermarks to all its AI-generated content. These watermarks are invisible to the eye but help identify images as AI creations.
The company uses SynthID technology for this purpose. In addition, AI-generated videos will include a visible watermark.
This ensures users understand the origin of each creation. The system supports responsible use of AI and builds user trust.
Creative Tools
Google Photos serves over 1.5 billion users worldwide, and many of them are not familiar with advanced editing tools.
However, these new features lower the barrier to creativity. In just a few steps, anyone can animate a memory or turn a snapshot into digital artwork.
Also, Google wants users to provide feedback. After using the AI tools, they can tap a thumbs-up or thumbs-down icon.
This input helps improve the system and refine future updates.
More AI Experiments
The “Create” tab will launch officially in August in the U.S. Google plans to update it regularly and promises that new features and creative experiments will appear over time.
This release also aligns with updates to YouTube Shorts. There, users will see similar photo-to-video options powered by Veo 2.
But this isn’t the last to come; Google plans to launch Veo 3 later this summer.
