Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has created a new group called Meta Superintelligence Labs.
This new division will oversee all of Meta’s AI work to accelerate progress toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and eventually superintelligence.
According to Bloomberg, the change was announced in an internal memo sent on Monday.

New Leadership
Zuckerberg has appointed two high-profile leaders to guide the new group. Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, will serve as Chief AI Officer.
Meta recently invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, and that deal brought Wang into the company.
Alongside him is Nat Friedman, former GitHub CEO. Friedman will lead AI product development and applied research.
Together, they will guide Meta’s strategy across infrastructure, research, and deployment.
A Focus on Superintelligence
Meta is going beyond developing smart tools to build systems that can learn, reason, and make decisions at or beyond human levels.
Zuckerberg believes this future is near, and by centralizing its AI work, Meta hopes to move faster.
The new structure allows closer coordination between teams. It also brings greater focus to Meta’s long-term research goals.
What Is Superintelligence?
Superintelligence refers to AI systems that can outperform the smartest humans in most areas.
Today’s AI handles narrow tasks, but superintelligent systems could perform open-ended reasoning, solve new problems, and adapt on the fly.
Meta now sees this as the next frontier. The company wants to lead in building this new class of AI.
Meta Attracts Top AI Talent
In addition to reorganization, the company is also hiring aggressively. According to reports, Meta has recruited at least 11 top AI researchers from rivals.
These hires include Pei Sun, a principal researcher from Google DeepMind, and Joel Pobar, an engineer from Anthropic.
Such talent is crucial. These researchers bring deep experience in machine learning, large models, and systems design.
