Overview

Udio AI is a song creation tool that is prompted with text and reference media (voice and songs). It produces songs in almost every genre, style, and voice. This includes and is not limited to Jazz, Pop, Reggae, Rock, and Pop-Rock.

Main Features

1. Song Creation

Udio AI uses the abilities of generative AI to string beats, tunes, and lyrics that represent several genres of songs. It has a selection of styles and gives the user creative freedom to describe the intended song and write lyrics.

However, it can also generate the lyrics itself and adjust for other aspects of the song, like instruments, intros, and outros.

2. Song Editing

After Udio AI creates a song, the user is allowed to make tweaks and modifications. The duration of the song can be extended, the style can be changed, and the song can be remixed. Even before generation, Udio AI allows the user to make a selection of the song’s features.

However, it is advised that beginners start with the AI on “auto-generation.” With time, users can then experiment and tinker for completely unique creations.

Using Udio AI

Udio AI has pre-written prompts for generating music. I selected one, ‘The last song sung’, and forewent further prompting that could have customized the song further. Udio AI went ahead to create a Pop Rock track.

I found it rather disjointed. One part of the song sounded like Pop, something a band would play. Some seconds in, it made a rough transition into full rock. I blamed this on a lack of customization. The AI was probably freestyling, leading to a mash-up.

So, I decided to make a remix and selected a song style as a reference. Udio AI generated two versions that retained the theme and lyrics but with differing styles. One was more upbeat and fast, the other was slower with a rock undertone.

There is the option for further editing. You can further remix the remix, extend the song’s duration, and change the style.

Using Udio AI

I decided to create another song. I entered the prompt Upbeat and playful. Something about the fun of youth.”

Using Udio AI

Udio AI generated two upbeat songs that I consider as passing the vibe check.

There were also a handful of features I found helpful. I could write my own lyrics or ask the AI to write them for me, extend the duration of the song (which was a default of 32s), opt for voice control, and insert a reference voice or song.

The Bottom Line

Udio AI is a helpful tool for creating songs, even for complete beginners. However, it has a slight leaning curve when producing highly customized music.

    FAQ

    1. Is Udio AI Free to Use?
Udio AI has a free plan that produces songs well enough. However, advanced features and a wider range of customization come with a subscription.

    2. Is Udio Better Than Suno?
Both Udio and Suno are excellent AI music tools. Udio creates realistic vocals and high-quality audio, while Suno places more focus on speed and creativity. The better option depends on the music needs.

    3. Is Udio Being Sued?
Yes, Udio is currently facing a lawsuit over the use of copyrighted material in its training data. In June 2024, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing major record labels, filed a copyright‐infringement lawsuit against Udio.
The suit states that Udio used copyrighted sound recordings without authorization to train its generative AI models. Therefore, the resulting music output competes directly with the original recordings.

    4. What Is Udio AI Used For?
Udio AI is used to create original songs and instrumentals with the abilities of AI. It helps musicians, creators, and marketers produce music quickly without extensive recording tools and skills.
