Alphabet, Google’s parent company, just launched Gemini 4 Argon. The company says it’s the most powerful Gemini yet. But most people can’t use it.
Gemini 4 Argon
Argon is built to handle many jobs. Think coding, research, and writing. Google also says it’s strong at reading visuals including long videos and charts.
Still, cybersecurity is where Google wants Argon to focus on. The company says the model can find, validate, and patch serious software flaws on its own.
Google calls this work “autonomous.” In plain terms, the AI does it with little human help. But not everyone will get to use it.
Google is only giving access to Argon out to a small, select group. These are the company’s cyber partners that join through the Fairwind Program, which is Google’s security venture.
This is because Argon was trained for defensive cyber work. That means protecting systems, not attacking them. A controlled release keeps the model in trusted hands.

Google’s Team
Google says its staff have used Argon in their daily work. They lean on it for debugging and for codebase migrations. That’s the job of moving software from one setup to another.
The company shared details about the model in a Wednesday blog post. Google said Argon can keep up deep reasoning across complex, long-running workflows.
It also said the model is changing how its teams work and build. Top AI labs keep rushing out stronger models as each one wants to beat the rest.
OpenAI recently released Astra, which it called its best model yet. Earlier this year, Anthropic put out Fable with similar claims.
Oddly enough, these same firms often warn that AI could spin out of control and have called for a slower pace of development.
Argon
Google says it does well. In its blog, the company claims Argon beat OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra on many AI benchmarks.
It says the same about Anthropic’s Fable and Opus models. Google also points to Vals, a fast-growing AI benchmarking startup.
According to Google, Vals shows Argon leading its model index right now. Keep in mind that these numbers come from Google itself. Independent testing will be more telling.
Google’s AI
Not long ago, many people said Google was behind in the AI race. That narrative is being rewritten.
In August, Google announced that the Gemini app has more than a billion monthly users.
That puts Google on par with OpenAI, whose ChatGPT also recently hit a billion monthly users. Now, both tech companies are neck and neck.
