At WWDC 2025, Apple announced Workout Buddy, a new AI fitness coach.
This feature, built into the Apple Watch and iPhone, helps users improve their workouts with personalized coaching.
It uses real-time data and past workout history to deliver relevant guidance and encouragement.
How Workout Buddy Works
Workout Buddy gathers key workout data. It considers your pace, distance, heart rate, and previous activity.
Then it gives advice during the workout. The feedback is constantly changing and adapts based on your progress and training level. It analyzes your fitness patterns. It also reacts during the workout itself.

Encouragement
Workout Buddy starts with a short pep talk. It tells you what to expect or highlights past milestones. During the workout, it alerts you when you hit important marks, like your fastest mile or longest run yet.
At the end, it summarizes your session. It lists your average pace, heart rate, and any new milestones. For example, if you complete your first 10K, it congratulates you.
New Layout and Smarter Controls
The Workout app on Apple Watch also gets a new layout. Features like Custom Workout and Race Route are easier to access. Now, users can start or adjust workouts with fewer taps.
Data and Privacy
Apple stated that Workout Buddy is private. It runs on-device, using Apple Intelligence. This means your fitness data stays on your iPhone or Watch. Nothing is sent to the cloud.
Available Workouts and Languages
Workout Buddy launches in English first. It supports the most popular workouts, such as running, cycling, walking, and more. Apple says more activities and languages will follow.
AI Coaching
Workout Buddy is not meant to replace personal trainers. Instead, it supports users who train alone or casually. It helps them stay motivated, track their progress, and push a little harder.
