OpenAI has officially opened a new app marketplace inside ChatGPT that lets developers submit their apps for review and possible publication.
The company announced the change on Wednesday. As a result, ChatGPT is moving closer to becoming a full platform rather than just a chatbot.
App Directory
OpenAI has added a new app directory within ChatGPT’s tools menu. Many users have already begun calling it an app store.
The directory is an easier way to find and use apps directly in a chat because it eliminates the need to switch between websites or apps.
Rather, ChatGPT users can now complete tasks without leaving the conversation. It’s also creates a clear space for developers to showcase their work.
Earlier Plans

In October, OpenAI announced that apps were coming to ChatGPT. At the time, the company said the goal was to expand what users could do inside the chatbot.
Soon after, several major platforms confirmed integrations. Expedia joined to help with travel planning.
Spotify added music discovery, Zillow supported apartment searches, and Canva enabled design and presentation tools.
Now, OpenAI is opening access beyond large companies. Developers of all sizes can submit apps for consideration.

ChatGPT Apps
According to OpenAI, apps extend ChatGPT conversations by adding new context. They also allow users to take direct actions during a chat.
For example, users can order groceries, turn an outline into a slide deck, or search for an apartment. These actions happen within the conversation itself.
Because of this, ChatGPT becomes more practical. It moves beyond answers and into real-world tasks.
Developers’s Tools
OpenAI is supporting developers through its Apps SDK, which is currently in beta. Even so, it provides the core tools needed to build new ChatGPT experiences.
Once developers finish their apps, they can submit them through the OpenAI Developer platform. From there, developers can track the progress of reviews and the approval status.
OpenAI announced that several approved apps will be launched within ChatGPT over the coming year.
