Google has unveiled a major update to Google Photos at its Made by Google event. The company announced that users can now edit photos by giving commands through voice or text.
The feature will launch first on Pixel 10 devices in the United States before expanding to other platforms.
Edit by Asking
Editing photos has often required navigating tools that could either be simple or complex, depending on the extent of edits. This can be confusing for users.
Google aims to change that narrative with the new “edit by asking” feature. Users will simply describe the changes they want and see it happen.
For example, you can say, “Remove the cars in the background,” or “Brighten this photo.” The app, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, will make the adjustments instantly.
Even a vague request such as “Make it better” will trigger automatic improvements.
Simple For All Users
This feature lowers the barrier for those who are not familiar with editing software. Parents can now clean up family pictures with a single request.
Students can polish their graduation photos in seconds. At the same time, experienced users can save time.
Instead of removing distractions one by one, they can rely on the app to handle them quickly.
Creative Adjustments
The tool is not limited to small fixes but also supports creative edits. Users can restore old photos with a simple command.
They can also add playful items like sunglasses or party hats to enhance personal pictures.
These options allow people to edit for both professional and personal needs.

Transparency
Google also announced support for C2PA Content Credentials. This standard improves transparency around how photos are created and modified.
It shows whether a picture has been edited and if AI was involved. Pixel 10 devices will be the first to support this feature.
Every photo taken with the camera will include this metadata, even if no AI edits were made. Google plans to expand this support to iOS and Android devices in the coming weeks.
Essentially, it will work like a label and provide clear information about the origins of each image. This helps users know what is authentic.
Availability
The “edit by asking” feature is available starting today for Pixel 10 owners. C2PA support will roll out first on those devices, with a broader release planned.
Other Android and iOS users can expect access in the near future.
