OpenAI Lets U.S. Labs Use Its AI for Nuclear Security and Research

OpenAI is teaming up with U.S. National Laboratories to use artificial intelligence for nuclear security and scientific research. This collaboration will introduce AI models into the Department of Energy’s (DOE) network of national labs.

What This Partnership Means

With Microsoft as its key partner, OpenAI will deploy AI models on a supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Scientists from three major national labs will have access to this technology:

• Los Alamos National Laboratory
• Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
• Sandia National Laboratories

These AI models will support a wide range of research, including materials science, climate studies, and, most notably, nuclear security.
