Salesforce has officially acquired cloud data management firm Informatica in an $8 billion all-cash equity deal.
The acquisition was planned to accelerate Salesforce’s enterprise AI strategy by enhancing its data infrastructure, governance, and automation capabilities.
The company announced the agreement on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
The Acquisition
Salesforce agreed to pay $25 in cash per share for Informatica’s Class A and Class B-1 common stock.
This figure accounts for Salesforce’s existing investment in the company and is one of Salesforce’s largest acquisitions to date.
Informatica, founded in 1993, provides data management services to over 5,000 customers across more than 100 countries.
At the time of the announcement, its market capitalization stood at $7.1 billion.
Salesforce’s AI Vision
According to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, the acquisition will help power tools such as Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360.
Benioff stated, “Together, we’ll supercharge Agentforce, enabling autonomous agents to act with intelligence, context, and confidence across every enterprise.”
This aligns with Salesforce’s long-term vision of building enterprise-grade AI that is safe, responsible, and deeply integrated with real-time data.
Timeline
In April 2024, initial reports suggested Salesforce was considering a purchase. The market responded negatively to this as shares of both companies dropped due to concerns about integration and strategic fit.
Informatica later denied any sale discussions. However, conditions changed, and talks resumed behind the scenes. A year later, the deal became official.
Recent Pattern of Acquisitions
This is not Salesforce’s only acquisition in the data space. In September 2024, the company bought Own Company for $1.9 billion in cash.
That deal focused on strengthening Salesforce’s data protection services. Steve Fisher, Salesforce general manager, said at the time, “Data security has never been more critical.”
With Informatica, Salesforce now expands control to the full data lifecycle, from governance to activation.
