The cost of X’s Premium+ plan more than doubled after xAI launched its latest AI model, Grok 3. Now, subscribers must pay about $50 per month. This is the second price hike in just a few months, leaving many users wondering if the plan is still worth it.
How Much Does Premium+ Cost Now?
X’s updated support page lists the new Premium+ pricing in the U.S. as:
- Monthly: $50
- Yearly: $350
This follows a previous price jump in December when the plan went from $16 to $22 per month. With the latest increase, subscribers are now paying more than twice what they were just months ago.
What’s Behind the Price Hike?
The timing suggests a link to the rollout of Grok 3. The Premium+ plan grants access to some of the AI’s features, but not all. xAI introduced a separate SuperGrok plan in the Grok app, offering exclusive tools like deep search and advanced reasoning. This means even Premium+ subscribers won’t get the full Grok 3 experience unless they upgrade further.

Pricing Confusion Leaves Users Frustrated
X’s pricing structure isn’t consistent across its platform. While the official support page states the Premium+ plan costs $50 per month, different amounts appear during sign-up:
- Sign-up page: $48.40 per month
- Check-out page: $40 per month
- Annual price inconsistency: Listed as $477.95 during sign-up but drops to $395 at checkout
These discrepancies raise concerns about transparency, leaving subscribers uncertain about what they’ll actually be charged.
Is Premium+ Still Worth It?
The price hike forces users to decide whether Premium+ is worth the cost. Key concerns include:
- Limited Grok 3 access: Some AI features are locked behind the SuperGrok plan.
- Frequent price increases: Two hikes in just a few months may indicate more to come.
- Inconsistent pricing: Different numbers across sign-up and checkout pages add to the confusion.
Could X Be Pricing Out Its Users?
X is taking a risk by making its top-tier plan so expensive. Competing platforms offer AI features at lower, more predictable prices. If X continues down this path, users might start looking elsewhere for AI social media experiences.
