A waiting room is a playground for scalper bots, despite the fact that they’re designed to manage human traffic and keep websites from being overwhelmed. 

The reason for this is that they regulate access, rather than verify who is actually accessing the site – when high-demand concert or sports tickets drop, ticketing platforms will proudly announce: “You are now in line!” 

But for fans, a 45-minute wait often ends with sold-out seating charts—because basic waiting rooms don’t actually stop bots; they just organize them into an orderly line.

The Flaw in Traditional Queues

Perhaps the biggest flaw is that standard queue management tools treat every incoming request equally. 

You have a ‘first in, first out’ system, which means all scalpers have to do is use headless browsers and automated script armies to claim the queue positions before real fans even refresh the page.

Looking for obvious signs of automation: unusually rapid interaction, repeated page requests, abnormal browser characteristics, large numbers of sessions originating from the same source. 

All of these are signals designed to identify suspicious behavior, but a sufficiently patient automated session can avoid all of that, giving a false sense of security that the site remains responsive and the traffic is throttled. In actual fact, visible automated activity is being postponed until the critical purchasing window is reached, and by that point, it’s too late.
