xAI has launched a new memory feature for its chatbot, Grok. With this new memory, Grok can now recall past interactions. It will therefore deliver more accurate, relevant, and personal responses.

For example, if a user often asks for vegan recipes, Grok will stop suggesting meals with meat. If you’ve mentioned a dislike for cold weather, it won’t recommend snowy destinations.

What the Memory Feature Does

Grok’s memory stores details from past chats and learns your preferences over time. This provides it with a wealth of information from which it can provide better suggestions and answers.

Here’s what it can remember:

  • Food and travel preferences
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Personal goals or tasks
  • Tone and style of conversation

But the process stays transparent. You can view what Grok remembers and delete anything at any time. A statement from xAI explains,

“Memories are transparent. You can see exactly what Grok knows and choose what to forget.”

Where the Grok Feature Works

The memory feature is still in beta testing. You can use it in the following places:

  • On Grok.com
  • In the Grok iOS app
  • In the Grok Android app

Currently, it’s not available in the European Union or the United Kingdom. This is likely due to strict privacy rules. xAI also plans to bring the feature to Grok on X (formerly Twitter) soon.

How to Manage Grok’s Memory

You can control Grok’s memory settings easily. To disable it, go to the Data Controls page in your settings.

You can also delete specific memories by tapping the ‘memory icon’ under a remembered item in your chat.

Grok Data Privacy Policy

AI memory brings both convenience and concern. Although users want personalized help, they worry about how data is stored or used. xAI has taken steps to address these concerns. It has stated that the memory feature is optional, all stored data is visible, and users can delete or disable it at any time.
