At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Google outlined its next steps for television. The company believes AI can make watching TV easier, faster, and more intuitive.

As a result, Google previewed new Gemini AI features designed specifically for large screens.

Google first introduced Gemini to Google TV devices in November. Now, the company is expanding those capabilities.

These new features will arrive first on select TCL televisions. After that, Google plans a broader rollout to additional Google TV devices in the months ahead.

Finding content remains one of the biggest frustrations for viewers. Google attempts to solve that problem with Gemini by letting users speak naturally to their television.

Viewers can ask for recommendations using everyday language without needing exact titles or precise keywords.

For example, users can ask for a show that blends two different tastes. They can also describe a movie by plot or mention a single actor.

Even general questions work. Someone could ask, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”

Recaps and Recommendations

Gemini also helps viewers stay connected to their favorite shows by giving recaps of a series before continuing.

After a break from a show, Gemini provides a summary of the storyline so far. Gemini also gives personalized recommendations that adapt to viewing habits and spoken requests.

Therefore, discovering new content takes less time.

Visual Responses

Gemini responds through a new visual framework created for television with answers that can include images, video context, and dynamic elements.

Responses may also include live scores and updates if the topic is on sports. Because each response adapts to the question, the experience feels tailored.

Edutainment

Google also sees educational value in the television screen. At CES, the company demonstrated how Gemini encourages learning.

When users ask a question, the TV presents a guided overview of the topic. The overview is narrated to explain complex ideas in simple language.

Users can then ask follow-up questions, which Gemini responds to immediately while building on the discussion.

With just voice commands, Gemini can fish for specific people, places, or moments, which can be edited and enhanced with artistic styles.

Google says these tools can turn personal memories into cinematic slideshows. These slideshows play directly on the TV.

Voice Command

Gemini lets users change settings without opening menus. Viewers can speak commands like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue.”

Gemini then adjusts the appropriate settings automatically without stopping the show or movie.

Requirements And Availability

Gemini for Google TV requires devices running Android TV OS 14 or higher. An internet connection is also required, and users must sign in with a Google account.

At launch, support will vary by language, country, and device. Google confirmed that not all regions will receive access immediately, but expansion will occur over time.
