This week, OpenAI confirmed that Target will launch a new ChatGPT-powered shopping app, and the rollout will begin in beta next week.

The app will sit inside ChatGPT. It will allow shoppers to search for products, request ideas, and build multi-item carts. Users can also browse food options and complete checkout.

Because the experience works through chat, shoppers can ask direct questions. For example, they can request a fast dinner idea or ask for help finding a gift.

The app will then guide them through available items at Target.

OpenAI’s Retail Expansion

This announcement comes after OpenAI’s recent interest in consumer shopping. Over the past month, it added apps from Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow.

In addition, OpenAI introduced Instant Checkout. This feature lets users purchase items during a conversation.

Retailers like Etsy and Shopify already support it. Now, with Target joining, the retail lineup inside ChatGPT continues to grow.

Enterprise Partnership

The deal also expands the companies’ existing enterprise work. Target will adopt ChatGPT Enterprise across 18,000 headquarters employees.

The company plans to use it for supply chain forecasting and for improving store processes. Furthermore, Target will integrate OpenAI’s models into more of its internal systems.

These include employee support tools, customer service technology, AI shopping assistants, and personalised gift finders.

Shoppers Expectations

The new app aims to make shopping more direct and efficient. Customers will spend less time searching and more time receiving clear recommendations.

As a result, they may find it easier to plan meals, compare products, or locate last-minute gifts.
