OpenClaw, a free, open-source AI agent that took the internet by storm, is now living on your phone.
The team behind OpenClaw shared the news on X this past Tuesday. iOS and Android users can now download the app and start running their own AI agents straight from their pocket.
OpenClaw
OpenClaw is a digital assistant that can take action, not just chat. It connects to something called the OpenClaw Gateway.
This gateway acts like a traffic controller that routes your requests to AI agents. Those agents then use tools and skills actually to get things done.
Until now, OpenClaw mostly lived on computers, and setting it up took some technical know-how. Now, the new mobile app changes that.
Now you can pair your phone directly with the Gateway, and agents go wherever you go.

Users
OpenClaw users have gotten creative. The official showcase page features a wide range of projects from the community.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Some users have shared mixed experiences. A piece in New York Magazine detailed one writer’s bumpy journey setting up an OpenClaw agent.
Like any new tool, OpenClaw has a learning curve. Results depend heavily on how well you set things up.
MoltBook
OpenClaw came into public view earlier this year thanks to something called MoltBook. MoltBook was billed as a social media platform run entirely by AI agents.
It quickly created a stir. Tech outlets covered it, and curious users flocked to watch the spectacle unfold.
TechCrunch even questioned whether the hype matched reality, with some AI experts staying skeptical about how exciting OpenClaw really was.
But researchers later found that humans were secretly behind some of the MoltBook activity while posing as agents.
Forbes reported on this back in February. The investigation suggested the whole spectacle was, in part, effective theater. It doubled as clever marketing for OpenClaw itself.
