Anthropic has rolled out a new Voice Mode for its AI coding assistant, Claude Code. For now, the feature is limited.

Only about 5% of users can access it, but a wider release is expected in the coming weeks.

Voice Commands

The new Voice Mode allows developers to speak directly to Claude Code, reducing the need for constant typing.

To enable the feature, users type “/voice”. Then they issue a spoken command that Claude Code hears and executes.

For example, a developer can say, “Refactor the authentication middleware.” The system then processes and applies the change.

This approach simplifies repetitive tasks. It also helps developers stay focused. Over time, it may reduce fatigue during long coding sessions.

Gradual Release

Thariq Shihipar, an engineer at Anthropic, shared the update on X. He confirmed that the rollout is gradual.

This controlled release allows the company to monitor performance. It also helps identify issues before expanding access to more users.

This is not Anthropic’s first step into voice interaction. In May, the company introduced Voice Mode for its chatbot, Claude.

That feature allowed users to interact with AI using speech for general tasks. Now, Anthropic is extending the same concept to coding.

Several important details remain unclear. Anthropic has not disclosed whether there are limits on voice usage and how the system handles complex or multi-step commands.

There is also no information on any technical constraints tied to the feature or if external partners are involved.

Reports suggest possible discussions with ElevenLabs, a voice AI provider. However, Anthropic has not confirmed any collaboration.

Growth Metrics

In February, the company stated that the product’s revenue run rate exceeded $2.5 billion. Notably, this figure has more than doubled since the start of 2026.

User engagement is also rising. Weekly active users have doubled since January, especially since Anthropic also gained attention for its policy decisions.

The company declined to allow the U.S. Department of Defense to use its AI for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons.

Following this decision, the Claude mobile app saw a sharp increase in downloads. It climbed to the top of the U.S. App Store rankings. During that period, it overtook ChatGPT.
